Itinerary
Prices from £675 per person
Arrive at the Old Rectory in Newport, which is located in the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The venue is a fantastic location which is located between the Irish Sea at the front of the property and the majestic Preseli Hills at the rear of the property. The accommodation is a traditional Welsh Rectory stone cottage, with modern day conveniences, including a large outside hot tub and yoga studio. The bedrooms are beautifully furnished to make your stay lovely and comfortable.
Day 1 Friday 15th March
Whether you arrive by car or by train (we can pick you up from the nearest
train stations) the house will be available from 4pm, which then allows you
some time to unpack and settle in, meet the team and enjoy a cup of
tea/coffee and some cake!
On the first night, its time to get your head torch and running kit on, as it’s time
for a gentle night run to get everyone warmed up for a weekend. It will be a
short run from the Rectory out onto the hills above for roughly one hour. A
great little run to get to know your fellow runners and coaches under the stary
night sky.
Awaiting you back at the Rectory will be hot showers and a delicious dinner
cooked by your private chef with fresh local ingredients. We’ll always
accommodate for dietary requirements - just let us know and we can take care
of it. Prior to dinner there will be pre dinner drinks out by the fire pit where we
will enjoy a glass or two of fizz.
It won’t be a late night, as we need a good night’s lsleep ready for the next
days adventure.
Day 2 Saturday 16th March
Waking up to the sea views of Newport Bay, it’s then time to enjoy a nutritious
breakfast. The running coaches will then provide a briefing on the plan for the
day. Trainers on and it’s off we go from the Rectory for a run along the
stunning coast path from Newport towards Pwllgwaelod for 6.5 miles. Along
the way the coaches will teach you new skills on ways to navigate the paths,
whilst at the same time you will get to enjoy the stunning coastal scenery
along the way. We will split the group into two, so we can accommodate for
different abilities.
A light lunch will be ready for you on the beach at Pwllgwaelod and after this
you have the choice to run for longer, or for those that wish to finish, transport
will be provided back to the Rectory.
Time to stretch
Our yoga teacher, Kat Steed, will provide a runner’s specific session this
afternoon. Kat will focus on connecting your breath to movement, as well as
focussing on the physical demand running takes on your body and how best
to use yoga as part of your trail running program.
Taking the plunge!
For those that feel brave enough, transport will be offered for those wishing to
take the short transfer down to Cwm Y Eglwys beach, where you can have a
quick dip in the sea before warming up in the exclusive use of the log fired
sauna, provided by our friends from Wild Water Sauna
Enjoy an evening meal
After this exhilarating experience, its time to head back to the Rectory to
freshen up. Before dinner there will be a chance to have a chat and a
discussion about a variety of trail running subjects with the coaches.
Dinner will be a hearty affair to make sure you’re fully refuelled. Then you can
kick back and relax, by enjoying some of our favourite running films and
documentaries to inspire you for Sunday!
Day 3 Sunday 17th March
Navigation
An early breakfast today, no Sunday lie in!
We will start the day by provide a brief navigation lesson for all levels, as we
know sometimes you need to plot new routes to go out and explore. Having
these skills is a great way to help you understand terrain when you’re in new
areas and to keep you safe.
Today will be a longer trail run but broken down into sections, again the
emphasis is on enjoyment, not pace, and you can begin to experiment with
the tips you’ve been given. The run will take you through the magical Cwm
Gwaun, an old glacial valley before we head towards the Preseli Hills. This
route offers a chance to use your map knowledge.
A light lunch will be ready for you when you arrive at a local village hall, with
yet again a choice to run for longer, or for those that wish to finish, transport
will be provided back to the Rectory.
Time to stretch
Join Kat for another afternoon yoga session in the studio.
Enjoy an evening meal
Tonight we will be dining at The Golden Lion, Newport's finest pub where you
will enjoy an evening meal in the restaurant. We will have the chance to
debrief on all you have learnt this weekend and share any events/challenges
you have signed up for the year ahead.
Day 4 Monday 18th March
All good things must come to an end but you have the option to take on a final
early morning coastal run (all our runs are optional though!) then head back to
the Rectory for another delicious breakfast and a chance to then say farewell
to your new trail running friends before leaving Newport and heading home,
complete with some amazing memories and a swag bag.
We hope you will leave with excitement and full of top tips on how to create an
effective training plan, so you’ll be set for a successful summer of trail running.
