How far?

As far as it takes. We cater for everyone, Saturday is generally the long run, how far is a long run? Well it depends on the group and their aims. We cater for ultra runners and  we cater for beginner trail runners taking their first steps. We will offer guided runs catered to the group which means no one gets left behind. If some want to run further then we will do our best to cater for them but the priority is always the group.  As well as this, there are options to cut runs shorter, we offer a pick up service so if some runners can't manage it as far as others will do our best to pick them up where we can. In the case of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, it winds through beaches, villages and other access points so we will always do what we can to get you home!

How Fast?

Again, we cater to the group and we never leave anyone behind! If necessary we can do split groups according to distance and pace. It is very difficult to give an average speed that we would set as a guide due to the nature of trail running and especially for the mountains and coast path. As a guide we would hope you would be comfortable running at about 10 minute miles or faster on the flat. Having said we will guide according to the group and go whatever speed is need to keep us all together.

What to bring

Running wise...everything you made need, simple... As a guide we would recommend the the items in the list below but obviously it is weather dependent...

  • Trail shoes. Essential except for the driest days of the year. The coast path can get very muddy and good grip is essential.

  • Waterproofs. Full waterproof gear including waterproof coat with taped seams and waterproof trousers are recommended. Even in mild weather if wet and immobilised then body temperature drops, add in wind too and you can get dangerously cold very quickly.

  • Water carrying vest or such like to carry at least 500ml water along with some fuel such as gels etc.

  • Spare long sleeve running top

Terrain

On the coast path the terrain is 'undulating' at meekest and challenging at worst (or best!). If you're not going down then you are usually going up. Though there are some flattish sections you should prepare for varying terrain. On the ups we would usually walk us as are often too steep to run (though please feel free to do so!). But that's one of the many joys of trail running, if we wanted boring we would stick to tarmac and flat roads...Talking of perks, quite simply it's the views, the coast path is a national treasure, the scenery and wildlife is now world renowned and if you haven't been here before then you won't believe it.
